T he Akwa Ibom commissioner for agriculture has presented a report card of achievements her ministry recorded last year in the state. Dr Glory Edet made public the achievements of the ministry during a Solemn Assembly she organized at the Civil Service Auditorium, Uyo, to thank God for Year 2021 and as well rededicate the Ministry to God for continuous blessings. Edet listed achievements recorded by her Ministry last year to include the successful cultivation of vegetables through the Green House, cultivation of coconut plantations across the state and massive cultivation of onions, expressing optimism that in 2021 God will multiply achievements for the ministry in all ramifications. While noting that Akwa Ibom, her Ministry and everything belongs to God, the commissioner explained that as a Ministry there was no better way of starting year 2021 than to first hand everything over to God for His guidance and blessings. She said that not much could have been recorded in terms of achievement in her Ministry last year but for the fact that it was first handed over to God in prayer for directions, guidance and divine blessings. Her words: "We thank God because we are alive today. When there is life there is hope. Whatever God cannot do, no man can do, the commissioner said and prayed God to continue to bless Akwa Ibom, the Ministry of Agriculture and her staff. Edet, who is the dean, College of Commissioners and Special Advisers, used the occasion to thank Gov Udom Emmanuel for being the agent of light to Akwa Ibom and prayed God to continue to grant him wisdom and also direct him aright at all times. She called on staff of the Ministry to be creative and diligent in the discharge of duties, advising them against indiscipline, absenteeism, truancy and giving unnecessary excuses at their work place this year, for the best to be accomplished. The commissioner challenged every category of staff to engage in practical agribusiness in order to contribute to the various agricultural value chains, adding that the state Ministry of Agriculture was poised to assist serious minded staff as well as departments with the provision of land for cultivation alongside other farm inputs. Apostle Udeme Afia of Afaha Nsit Area Superintendency of the Apostolic Church, while sermonizing on "The Earth is the Lord's and the Fullness Thereof, " drawn from Psalms 24:1a, prophesied that 2021 would illuminate light to the Ministry of Agriculture for greater achievements. Afia explained that with the Solemn Assembly to kick-start the Ministry's activities, the seeds of multiplication has been planted to multiply the successes of the Ministry and the staff, exceedingly. Declaring that "Those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits, the cleric charged staff of the Ministry to be mindful of what they do and to always ensure that they seek righteousness with positive confession for the realization of their expected ends. The director, Administration and Supplies in the Ministry, Mr Ifiok Udo, read the only Bible lesson that was taken from Psalm 24 verses 1- 10 on the occasion attended by all directors and staff of the Ministry, with prayers offered for an enduring peace in the state and for divine guidance and protection for the state governor.
