AKHA Speaker Lauds Commission For Recording Great Strides

The speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assermbly (AKHA) has lauded the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly Service Commission led by Mr Godwill Umoh for its administrative dynamics which has recorded great strides. Mr Aniekan Bassey said this while declaring open the Prewritten Promotion Seminar and Examination for Senior Staff of the House of Assembly Service Commission at the former chapel of the Assembly Complex recently. The exercise qualified staff who were due for promotion on salary grade level seven and above in 2020. He noted that the commission under the leadership of Umoh has been on consistent path of recording greater strides that keeps the staff abreast towards improving their service delivery. Represented by the clerk of the Assembly, Mrs mandu Umoren, he maintained that the knowledge gained was not only for the purpose of examination, but will help the participants in the performance of their duties, urging them to give the training the attention it deserves bearing in mind that their promotion will be based on merit evident in their high level of performance. He reiterated the commitment of the Seventh Assembly to partnering the commission in fast-tracking effective service delivery for the overall development of the state. The chairman of the commission said the exercise was in line with the completion agenda of Gov Udom Emmanuel, who has placed premium on the welfare of the people, as the exercise was billed to promote the welfare of staff for efficient and effective service delivery. "The staff of the Assembly Service Commission play a better role in the completion agenda of Gov udom Emmanuel, so what we are doing today was intended to encourage us to make sure that we do the needful in an attempt to promote not only the welfare of staff, but the integrity of the staff of the commission, he stated. Umoh expressed appreciation to Gov Udom Emmanuel for his kind approval for the conduct of the exercise as it has about 35 senior staff who were considered due for promotion in 2020, assuring that 2021 will be addressed as soon as possible. "As soon as we conclude the one of 2020, 2021 will be on the front burner. I can aassure you that we will do the needful to make sure we achieve the purpose for which the Assembly Service Commission was set up, Umoh said. The deputy speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Princess Felicia Bassey, pointed out that the 7th Assembly from inception on June 10, 2019 had given unprecedented attention and commitment to capacity building of its staff which forms an inclusive template and pragmatic approach aimed at exposing the staff top contemporary trends for improved productivity which in turn would have residual effects in the overall administrative dynamics of the Assembly. She said in addition to the three fold responsibility of lawmaking, oversight and representation, the entire Assembly depends on the expertise and stewardship of desk officers to drive the vision and mandate entrusted upon them. Bassey, who is also the member for Okobo State Constituency in the Assembly, maintained that the huge task therefore calls for periodic training and retraining in keeping the task abreast with the day to day happenings and innovations that can improve their service delivery. The lawmaker added that the seminar was therefore targeted at effectiveness and efficiency in line with the routine schedules of duty and set goals of the Assembly Service Commission in relation to the expectations of the Seventh Assembly, saying that the leadership of the Assembly was appreciative of the services so far rendered by the category of staff looking forward to better services, deeper commitment and professionalism as parts of the outcome of the seminar. She lauded the chairman of the Assembly Service Commission and his team of commissioners for enhancing excellence in service delivery and productivity, as well as commending the robust partnership and strong synergy, as it became necessary that they begin the capacity building exercise with the senior staff on whose shoulders directly rests the mantle of administrative engagements of the Assembly. Bassey assured that plans were underway for similar opportunities for other category of staff, hoping that lessons learnt at the seminar would be put to good use towards improving services at private and corporate levels as modern office setting has no room for mediocrity and ridiculous excuses for inadequacy and under performance. She commended Gov Udom Emmanuel for the conducive atmosphere he has created in the Assembly and the state where best efforts are showcased, saying expertise, effectiveness, efficiency and positive innovations were expected to be brought to bear in the execution of duties by all categories of Akwa Ibo m civil Service staff including its indigenes across board for the realization of the completion agenda of Gov Udom Emmanuel.
