$1.4bn Fertilizer Plant: Godwini Hails Gov Emmanuel

A public affairs commentator and industrialist, Mr Godwini Asuquo Ukoh, has commended Governor Udom for attracting multibillion fertilizer plant into the state, urging Akwa Ibom youths to get prepared to function in the attracted industries by enrolling in short safety courses to be able to stand out from the general crowd.
Speaking with newsmen in Uyo, Mr. Godwini Ukoh commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for the completion of Dakkada Tower and signing agreement for $1.4b fertilizer plant to be sited in Akwa Ibom State.
He noted that the governor's developmental strides in the area of industrialization have projected the state within and outside the country
He argued that for Akwa Ibom youths to benefit maximally from the various industries attracted into the state by the governor, they must engage in short courses on safety.
Ukoh averred that with knowledge on safety, the youths can access various employment opportunities in petrochemical industries.
According to him, "The governor is doing massively well by bringing industries into the state as well as creating enabling environment for these industries to thrive.
"If our youths want to be part and parcel of running these industries, they must get themselves trained on safety which is one of the paramount requirements for employment by multinationals.
"For health safety and environment, the youths can enroll with the Nigeria Institute of Safety Professionals with training fees between thirty to hundred thousand naira. Those who want to further their studies on safety can register with NEBOSH.
"With NEBOSH Diploma - The 'Gold Standard' participants are provided with higher level practitioner knowledge suitable for those working in or looking to work in senior HSE roles.
Ukoh noted that NEBOSH certificate, provides essential knowledge and understanding of safety, suitable for those who are involved in the day to day operational management of HSE.
He revealed that the youths can also enroll for award level qualification which he described as awareness qualifications providing a good understanding of HSE and suitable for all employees, especially those with HSE responsibilities as part of a wider role.
"NEBOSH courses are recognized by professional bodies and many UK universities, who allow NEBOSH Diploma holders direct entry into MSc programmes.
Meanwhile, professional bodies recognizing NEBOSH qualifications include: Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH); International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM); Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
It can be recalled that on March 3, 2021 Governor Emmanuel was part of a Nigerian delegation led by the minister of state for petroleum resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, that visited Morocco to set out the next steps of the $1.4 Bln fertilizer production plant project launched in June 2018.
The agreement between the OCP Africa, the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority and the Akwa Ibom State government will birth one of the biggest investments in the fertilizer production industry worldwide.
